Readimus Community Guidelines

Effective date: 5 October 2026 Last updated: 5 October 2026

Readimus is a space for readers to keep a personal library, publish reviews, discuss books, and share their reading activity. We want it to be an interesting, welcoming, and safe place to connect. These Guidelines explain what helps create that environment and what can undermine it.

These Guidelines apply to all content that users make available to others, including profiles, avatars, lists, reviews, comments, book information, and reading activity.

When creating an account, you must accept our Terms of Use and these Guidelines. By publishing content or interacting with other users, you agree to follow them.

There is no tolerance for objectionable content or abusive users on Readimus. Content that violates these Guidelines may be removed, and the accounts responsible for it may be restricted or terminated, as described in section 9.

1. Treat others with respect

The following are not allowed:

  • bullying, harassment, intimidation, or humiliation of others;
  • threats of violence or wishes of harm;
  • hateful or discriminatory content based on race, nationality, ethnic origin, religion, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, disability, or any other protected characteristic;
  • sharing another person's personal or confidential information without permission;
  • impersonating another person or organization in order to mislead others.

You are welcome to disagree with a book, an author, or another reader's opinion—lively discussion is part of the experience. Please challenge ideas, not people: threats, insults, and targeted harassment have no place on Readimus.

2. Do not publish dangerous or illegal content

Content is not allowed if it:

  • violates applicable law;
  • promotes violence, terrorism, criminal activity, or harm;
  • contains material depicting sexual violence or exploitation;
  • sexualizes minors or puts their safety at risk;
  • contains pornographic imagery or sexually explicit material published primarily for sexual gratification;
  • encourages self-harm or dangerous behavior;
  • is used for fraud, phishing, or distributing malware.

You may discuss books intended for mature audiences and the difficult topics they address, as long as the discussion relates to the book and does not turn into the publication of material prohibited above.

3. Respect creators' rights

You may add books and edit book information in Readimus. Titles, author names, ISBNs, and other bibliographic details may be entered manually. Creating a book listing does not mean uploading the book itself: Readimus is not intended for publishing the full text of books.

Readimus obtains some book information and cover images from external book databases. If you add or replace a description, cover image, other image, or any other material yourself, you are responsible for that material and must have the rights or another lawful basis to use it. Do not upload the full text of a book, substantial excerpts, or other protected material without permission or another lawful basis.

Quotations and discussions of works are permitted to the extent allowed by applicable law. Credit the source where appropriate.

4. Promote books appropriately and do not spam

Authors, publishers, and other members of the book community may talk about their books, events, and projects when relevant to the discussion. Please be transparent about your connection to what you are promoting, and do not post the same message repeatedly, in bulk, or intrusively.

The following are not allowed:

  • repeatedly posting identical or irrelevant content in bulk;
  • undisclosed, misleading, or non-book-related advertising;
  • artificially inflating likes, follows, ratings, or other activity;
  • creating accounts or publishing content through automation without permission from Readimus;
  • deceptive links or attempts to redirect users to unsafe resources.

5. Write honest reviews

Reviews must reflect your genuine opinion. You may not buy, sell, or commission reviews that are required to be positive or negative, or offer compensation in exchange for a particular rating.

You may receive a free review copy from an author or publisher. If you publish a review afterward, clearly disclose the free copy or any other relationship you have with the author, publisher, or book. Receiving a free copy does not oblige you to give the book a high rating or write a positive review.

6. Provide accurate book information

Users may add and edit information about books. Do not knowingly submit false information or replace book information with advertising, jokes, or unrelated content.

You can report an incorrect title, author, description, or cover using the “Report an issue” option on the book's page.

7. Mark spoilers

You may discuss a book's plot and ending, but please use the available spoiler label. Do not post significant plot details where other users would not reasonably expect to see them.

8. Report violations

If you find a violation of these Guidelines, use the “Report” option on the user's profile, review, or comment. To report other content, such as a list or reading activity, report the profile of the user who published it and describe the issue. You can also send us a link and a brief description of the issue at support@readimus.com.

We aim to review reports of objectionable content within 24 hours and remove content that violates these Guidelines. Reports involving an immediate safety risk, child exploitation, or other potentially dangerous content are prioritized. Complex cases may take longer to review.

You can block a user if you do not want to see their content or interact with them. Once blocked, that user can no longer follow you, see your profile, library, or activity, or comment on or like your content, and you will no longer see theirs. Blocking also removes any existing follows between you. The blocked user is not notified, and you can unblock them at any time in Settings. We may take blocks into account when reviewing accounts for violations.

Do not include unnecessary personal information in your report. If there is an immediate threat to someone's life or safety, contact your local emergency services first.

Reports of potential copyright infringement are handled under our separate Copyright / Takedown Policy.

9. Moderation and enforcement

Our goal is not to punish people for honest mistakes, but to maintain a safe and welcoming community. We consider the context, severity, and frequency of a violation. Depending on the situation, Readimus may:

  • warn the user;
  • limit the visibility of or remove content;
  • temporarily restrict certain features;
  • temporarily suspend or permanently terminate an account;
  • retain information needed to investigate a violation or comply with legal obligations, in accordance with our Privacy Policy and applicable law;
  • contact the relevant authorities when required by law or necessary to protect people's safety.

These measures do not have to be applied in order. We will generally start with the least severe appropriate measure, but a serious safety threat or severe violation may result in the immediate removal of content or termination of an account.

You may not create or use other accounts to evade a block, account suspension, or another moderation action. Those accounts may also be restricted or terminated.

10. Ask us to review a decision

We can make mistakes too. If you believe an action was incorrectly taken against your content or account, contact us at support@readimus.com. Include your username, the decision you would like us to review, and why you believe it was incorrect.

11. Changes to these Guidelines

We may update these Guidelines as Readimus evolves, new features are added, or legal requirements change. The current version and the date it was last updated will be published on the Readimus website.

Material changes will take effect on the date stated in the updated version.
